To ensure a safe and smooth surgery, please follow these:

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 6 hours before your surgery unless instructed otherwise.
  • If you are taking certain weight loss medications- Fasting time may be significantly longer. Please let your Doctor know.
  • You may take small sips of water to swallow essential medications if approved by your doctor.

2. Medications

  • Continue taking regular medications unless advised to stop.
  • Blood thinners or diabetes medications may need to be paused—follow your doctor’s instructions closely.

3. Personal Care

  • Shower the night before or the morning of surgery using regular soap.
  • Do not apply lotions, creams, powders, or deodorant to the surgical area.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and remove any jewelry, nail polish, or makeup.

4. Arrangements

  • Organize for a responsible adult to accompany you and take you home after surgery.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after anesthesia.

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have any changes to your medication or health condition.

Laparoscopy Surgery

1. Bowel Preparation Before Surgery

A less distended bowel gives the surgeon more room to work, making the procedure safer and potentially faster.

  • Avoid constipation in the week leading up to surgery.
  • Use regular laxatives as advised to keep stools soft.
  • Aim to have a bowel movement daily.

Speak with your pharmacist about the best laxative options for you.

2. Clean Your Belly Button

To reduce infection risk, clean your belly button thoroughly the day before surgery:

  • Use a cotton bud with warm soapy water to gently clean inside.
  • Rinse and dry the area completely.
  • Do not apply creams, oils, or powders afterward.

Hysteroscopy Surgery

Cervical Ripening with Misoprostol

You may be prescribed  misoprostol before your hysteroscopy to help soften and open the cervix, making the procedure safer and smoother.

How to Take Misoprostol:

  • Take the prescribed dose (usually 400 mcg) buccal or as instructed.
  • Typically taken  2-3 hours before the procedure.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Cramping or lower abdominal pain
